Pioneered in the 1990s by Dr. Frank Shallenberger, Prolozone is a regenerative treatment that enables the body to heal from chronic injuries in order to reduce pain and improve a patient’s overall function. Prolozone is actually a modification of another regenerative medicine treatment called prolotherapy. With prolotherapy, a mixture of dextrose (sugar) and Novocaine is injected into an injured area. The sugar slightly irritates the tissue, which tells the body it’s injured, so the body floods the region with healing cells to accelerate the repair process. With Prolozone, B vitamins are added to the mixture to promote better cell nutrition. A patient is also injected with oxygen and ozone gas to improve overall cell function, which encourages even faster healing.
